Khunsi Onikan provides a supportive, culturally responsive recovery environment for women, many of whom are mothers with small children and facing significant life challenges such as homelessness, legal issues, unemployment, and unresolved trauma. Unlike most virtual programs, Khunsi Onikan allows children to be present during group sessions, fostering a strong sense of community and connection among participants. This approach has not only enabled effective group interaction but also helped the women become each other’s support system. With access to extended support services through AIFC, participants are able to build stability and work toward critical goals like securing housing, regaining custody of their children, finding employment, and engaging in meaningful trauma recovery. Early program successes include several women reaching 9 months to one year of sobriety and achieving key milestones in their healing journeys.
