Joseph House is a nonprofit addiction treatment center in Cincinnati dedicated to serving military veterans and their families through a culturally aware, veteran-focused approach. Its mission is to support reintegration and long-term recovery in a safe, structured, and understanding environment.
The Residential and Inpatient Program provides up to three months of care in a sober living setting, offering at least 10 hours of direct services weekly. Programming includes individual and group counseling, dual-diagnosis support, substance abuse education, case management, 12-step integration, Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), and holistic therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), art, yoga, anger management, and equine therapy. Currently, residential services are open to male veterans, with expanded facilities under development to accommodate female veterans.
Joseph House also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a 12-week program meeting three times per week, structured around the “Living in Balance” curriculum. Outpatient services are available to both male and female veterans, featuring relapse prevention classes based on the Matrix Model, individual and family counseling, MRT, dual-diagnosis care, and sober-living skill development.
Aftercare support is provided through the Ready & Forward program, which emphasizes relapse prevention, life skills, case management, housing and employment assistance, family therapy, and trauma and grief counseling. Family and Friends sessions further educate loved ones about addiction, self-care, and effective support strategies.
Joseph House combines evidence-based therapies with holistic practices in a peer-led, veteran-centered model. With many staff members who are veterans themselves, the program fosters camaraderie, mutual understanding, and a strong community environment throughout the recovery journey.
