Comanche Nation - New Pathways in Lawton, Oklahoma, United States

Comanche Nation New Pathways is located in the city of Lawton in Comanche County, Oklahoma, and is a transitional residential substance use recovery program that provides culturally focused support for Native American adults recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. Established in 1990, New Pathways is the only Native American halfway house in the Southwest Indian Health Service region and serves as a 90 day, nonmedical residential program for individuals who have successfully completed an inpatient primary residential treatment program for substance use disorders. The program helps residents transition from intensive treatment to independent living by providing 24 hour supervision, individual counseling, case management, substance abuse education, relapse prevention, advocacy, referrals, employment assistance, housing preparation, transportation support, balanced meals, drug and breathalyzer testing, and recovery coaching. Residents participate in Alcoholics Anonymous, Certified Wellbriety, Native American sweat lodge ceremonies, and other traditional cultural activities that promote healing and long term sobriety. New Pathways also utilizes the 12 Core Substance Abuse Functions, including assessment, treatment planning, counseling, crisis intervention, client education, and referral services, while emphasizing personal responsibility, employment, self sufficiency, and continued recovery. Preference for admission is given to Comanche tribal members, although the program serves Native Americans throughout southwest Oklahoma who meet eligibility requirements.
