True North Student Assistance and Treatment Services provides youth focused behavioral health and substance abuse treatment services for students in the Shelton, Washington area and throughout the Educational Service District 113 region. True North uses screening and assessment to determine the appropriate level of substance use disorder care for each student and adjusts treatment as recovery progresses. Substance abuse services include outpatient treatment with approximately one to five hours per week of individual and group counseling designed to increase motivation for change, improve understanding of the consequences of substance use, reduce harmful consequences, and build awareness of addiction. For youth with greater treatment needs, intensive outpatient services provide six or more hours of group counseling per week along with individual counseling at least monthly, with treatment duration based on the severity of the student’s condition. Students who require care beyond the program’s capabilities may be referred to inpatient treatment. Family counseling is also available when determined appropriate by a chemical dependency counselor and focuses on identifying and resolving family behaviors that may interfere with healthy and productive living. Continuing care provides longer term recovery support following a period of abstinence, helping students recognize risk factors, develop relapse prevention strategies, maintain recovery, and address ongoing concerns that could contribute to a return to substance use or other negative behaviors. In addition to substance abuse treatment, True North provides student assistance, intervention, evaluation, and mental health treatment services, allowing behavioral health and substance use concerns to be addressed within a youth centered system of care.
