Foundation for Multicultural Solutions El Camino in Tacoma, Washington, provides culturally responsive substance use disorder treatment for adults and youth in Tacoma and throughout Pierce County, with a particular emphasis on bilingual Spanish and English services and a family oriented approach to recovery. The El Camino Substance Use Disorder Treatment program has provided intensive outpatient treatment in Pierce County since 1999 and approaches recovery from physical, emotional, social, and spiritual perspectives while incorporating both harm reduction and abstinence. The organization reports that approximately 1,500 adults and 1,000 youth have entered its treatment program and identifies strong program completion and retention rates among both populations. In addition to intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment, El Camino provides alcohol and drug evaluations, DUI assessments, a Spanish language Alcohol and Drug Information School, and a Spanish language DUI Victims Impact Panel. Its broader community programming includes substance use and health education, early intervention, tobacco cessation, chronic disease education, and education and awareness concerning issues affecting the community. The program emphasizes not only reducing alcohol and drug use but also helping individuals and families rebuild relationships, support young people’s educational progress, strengthen parenting without addictive substances, and pursue emotional, social, and spiritual recovery. El Camino is certified by the Washington State Department of Health to provide substance use disorder treatment and has served Pierce County for more than two decades with services designed to be accessible to Spanish speaking individuals and families.
