Overview

Outpatient drug rehab is the most common type of Substance Use Disorder treatment (SUD). It is generally the most affordable and allows patients to get the help they need for their alcohol or drug addiction while still maintaining other important aspects of their lives, such as their careers, family relationships, and other obligations. Outpatient programs typically administered treatment over a few weeks, consisting of multiple sessions per week, including group therapy, one-on-one counseling, supplemental occupational therapies, and other treatment modalities. Most facilities have their own preferred approach to outpatient addiction treatment.

Outpatient alcohol and drug rehab is a viable option for individuals in every stage of a Substance Use Disorder, from those who have just started to have their lives impacted by SUD to those who need a deeper level of care, but with flexibility and independence. These programs are generally covered by insurance, whether it is through your employer, your state resources, or through Medicare and Medicaid. Outpatient rehab also is used as a step-down treatment for long-term residential treatment. Many outpatient facilities also coordinate with medical centers and trained doctors and nurses in their area to offer detox and withdrawal symptom management.
