WAPI Community Services is a nonprofit behavioral health organization serving Federal Way in King County, Washington, with a long history of providing culturally responsive substance use disorder services to youth, families, and communities of color. The organization began through efforts by Asian American and Pacific Islander community members and King County’s Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse to address alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use within the AAPI community, later becoming a nonprofit organization and a Washington state certified chemical dependency provider. WAPI began providing outpatient substance abuse treatment to AAPI children and youth and later expanded its focus to serve youth of color more broadly. In 2019, WAPI expanded its Substance Use Disorder Program to adults, allowing individuals who entered services as youth to continue receiving support as they became adults and enabling the organization to provide addiction treatment to entire families and communities. WAPI also became a state licensed mental health service provider, supporting a more integrated approach for clients who may experience both substance use and mental health concerns. Its services emphasize prevention, intervention, outpatient substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health support, and culturally appropriate care, with programming designed to address the individual, family, and community factors that can influence alcohol and drug use. In addition to Federal Way, WAPI Community Services maintains a presence in Seattle and Shoreline, extending its behavioral health and substance abuse resources to communities throughout the King County area.
