Treatment for Substance Use Disorder
Whether you’ve been battling addiction for years or you’re just starting to realize the impact it’s having on your life, proactive and timely treatment is critical to mitigating its impact and helping those who are struggling reclaim their health and quality of life.
Service members have access to an extensive network of addiction treatment providers that offer multiple levels of care, including but not limited to:
- Medical Detox and Withdrawal Management – Healthcare law legally requires insurance companies to cover medically necessary treatment, which often includes detoxification to help patients manage their cravings, as well as their physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms. While the scope of coverage for detox varies according to each person’s plan, the process generally takes an average of three to seven days. It is overseen by doctors to help patients stay as comfortable as possible and reduce the threat of a medical emergency.
- Inpatient and Residential Treatment – Live-in rehab programs that last for an average of 28-30 days, during which patients get help from experienced and trained doctors and therapists. Inpatient treatment may include medically supervised detox and withdrawal management as part of a comprehensive program or may be offered as a standalone service.
- Outpatient Rehab – Daily treatment programs that offer in-depth group and individual counseling. Outpatient rehab programs are usually between six and eight hours per day in duration, with patients attending treatment around three to five days per week. Your policy may cover all or part of your program, depending on your plan tier.
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) – Medication-assisted treatment has become a cornerstone of long-term recovery from opioid abuse. It involves the use of FDA-approved medications to help manage long-term cravings. The most medications used during MAT include Suboxone® (buprenorphine and naloxone), methadone, and Vivitrol® (monthly injectable naloxone). The duration of coverage for medication-assisted treatment will vary based on plan type and ongoing care needs.
Your Shasta Health Insurance policy may also cover additional substance use treatment services, such as case management and ongoing therapy for co-occurring mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, and others.
