SAMHSA Funding – Block Grants Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers funding packages for all 50 states to make treatment more accessible while also creating funding for programs that prevent substance use in communities. These funds are distributed in clusters called block grants, and they are designed to service distinct populations and initiatives, such as:

  • Pregnant women and women with dependent children
  • Injection drug users
  • Tuberculosis services
  • Early intervention services for HIV/AIDS
  • Primary prevention services

SAMHSA funding – block grants drug rehab programs are essential not only for prevention and recovery but also for public health. In addition to treatment and rehab services, SAMHSA block grants fund a variety of substance abuse prevention pillars, including information and education, guidance on alternatives and environmental impact, and more.

Funding Criteria for SAMHSA Block Grants

In order to receive SAMHSA block grant funding, recipients must:

  • Apply for funds every year
  • Have a designated executive-level entity to distribute the funds
  • Have established organizations to whom they can deliver substance abuse prevention activities and treatment services

Additional eligibility criteria may apply, depending on funds requested, community resources, and other factors. SAMHSA block grant funding for treatment facilities allows communities to offer more robust treatment resources to help residents and their neighbors enter long-term recovery and reclaim their health and peace of mind from addiction.
