Neurofeedback (EEG) Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers
Neurofeedback is a process in which participants are able to monitor their brain activity by measuring brain waves with the help of a machine that provides a feedback signal. Positive and negative brain activity (joy, anger, stress, comfort, etc.) is recorded through electroencephalogram (EEG), a test that measures spontaneous electrical activity in the brain.
When neurons are activated, they produce electrical pulses. By placing electrodes on the scalp, the electrical activity of the brain is captured. The results are then measured to try and determine triggers and pinpoint what factors correspond to different types of activity.
Neurofeedback has become an increasingly common modality in the treatment of alcohol and drug use disorder. It helps determine impulse control, relapse triggers, and stressful situations that can lead to drinking and drug use. There are multiple types of neurofeedback, depending upon patients’ care needs, mental health history, facility resources and other factors.
